Members from the GFYRC who attended were Alexandra Kendrick Tabarrok (national committee woman), Michael Tabarrok (general counsel), Dana Gordon (YRNF membership recruitment chairman). Clint Murphy (national committee man) was attending the top gun leadership class and thus was not present at YRLC.

Business
During the Board meeting we were presented with three Amendments. Chairman Jessica Colon on behalf of Ron Herbison proposed the first amendment. And called for disciplinary procedures upon an YRNF member who violated the YRNF governing documents or who went against the principles of the YRNF. This amendment was changed in committee to exclude the monetary penalties. And went to a vote by the members of the national committee. It was voted by the members to be sent back to committee by a roll call vote. The seconded Amendment regarded the state chairman’s association and inserted the phrase “for a term defined in the supplemental rules. Any vacancy in the office of the chairman shall be filled in accordance with the supplemental rules of the association.” This amendment passed the national committee by standing vote. The third amendment would have accomplished the same goal as the second amendment and thus was resented by its author Kerry Sullivan.

Social
Our YRLC began with a welcome reception at the Liaison Hotel with Minority Leader
Boehner in the Hill Room. He gave a rousing speech and answered many questions. That next Thursday morning we visited the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives with Congressman Kevin McCarthy U.S. House of Representatives, he spoke about his days as a young republican a told a couple of stories about what had happened on the floor. After we finished our floor visit we posed for a group picture by Capitol Hill Photographer on steps of the U.S. Capitol. Then we were led on a tour of the U.S. Capitol Building. After that was over we went to lunch at the Capital Hill Club and enjoyed the revealing of the U.S. House Republican Policy Agenda with U.S. House Republican Policy Committee Chairman, Congressman Thaddeus McCotter and Grover Norquist, President of Americans for Tax Reform. That afternoon we attended the YRLC Training Tracks which were available in Communications, Leadership, Political Action and Fundraising at Liaison Hotel. Before we left for the Iraqi Embassy we attended a Republican National Committee Briefing with Chairman Mike Duncan and a reports by RNC Communications Director. Then we rode over to the reception with the Iraqi Ambassador and Grover Norquist, President of Americans for Tax Reform. That next Friday morning we received an East Wing Tour of White House White and then went to a House Briefing with the Honorable Ed Gillespie. Lunch followed at the Liaison Hotel with Newt Gingrich, author of Real Change and Book Signing. YRLC offered Policy Panels in the afternoon. And for dinner a Vice Presidential Straw Poll and A Conversation with Presidential Strategists Frank Donatelli and Ron Kaufman with Moderator Terry Campo, former YRNF Chairman, 1989-1991 and current President, YR Alumni association. Saturday we had lunch with Michael Steele. And then held our Republican Leadership Conference National Federation Spring Board Meeting. That evening we started off with a cocktail party and then finished our evening with the Young Republican Leadership Conference Gala Dinner with Senator Trent Lott.

YRNF Primary parties

As YR’s across the country gathered to see whom the leaders would be. The Georgia YR’s had a great time watching the primary. It was filled with food, sprits, and good old republican politics. The Atlanta and Buckhead YR’s combined forces to put on a great party at the 5 Seasons Brewing Company in Sandy Springs co. sponsored by the Fulton co. G.O.P. While Ga YR national committeewoman, Alexandra Tabarrok put on a party for the Savannah YR’s in her home. Both events had fantastic turnout especially the AYR’s and the BYR’s with over 150 YR’s thought the night! Two T.V. stations covered the SAYR event with Ga YR national committeeman Clint Murphy giving commentary to WBMQ’s Ray Steele. WGKA broadcast live from the AYR/ BYR event and the GFYR chairman Jason Sheperd gave Huckabee analyses on air. Thank you to those of you who participated in this event especially Cameron Fash and Ed McAfee chairman of the Atlanta and Buckhead YR’s and Brian Dinapoli, for well being Brian. I recommend that my successor be clint murphy, since he had a passion for this position and his campaign is over.
Regards,
Josh McKoon

Fall '07 Houston Board Meeting

Attendance
Neither Josh or Alexandra were able to attend the Houston Fall board meeting. I arrived on Wednesday, got registered and enjoyed some food and fireworks with fellow YRs. On Thursday we got down to business with our first YRNF Board Session of YRNC 2007. We heard primarily from Chairman Nicolee Ambrose, about the tremendous progress made under her leadership in getting the YRNF's financial house in order, improving its relationship with Washington, building a real grassroots deployment program (1000:1) and strengthening its national media profile. Fox News, the Associated Press and C-SPAN were just a few of the media organizations that came to cover YRNC 2007. We had a review of 1000:1, the volunteer deployment program targeted in five different races that went very well. It seems certain that the program will be expanded for the 2008 cycle and I have requested that Georgia's 8th Congressional District be considered for targeting.

We had a great luncheon Thursday with Michael Steele, former Lt. Gov. of Maryland and now Chairman of GOPAC, the influential conservative candidate training organization. He gave a great talk about the need for the GOP to come together and the importance of the 2008 cycle, not only at the federal level, but also at the state and local level. He recounted his personal experience campaigning for the Senate in 2006 and I found his talk to be both inspirational and informative.

Thursday afternoon was filled with GOPAC training on Communications and Fundraising. I obtained some manuals on both that I will be scanning so the GFYRC will have wider access to the material presented. Needless to say, both sessions were very informative.

Friday we had a great luncheon with Congressman Duncan Hunter, who shared with us his vision as a 2008 presidential candidate. He particularly focused on his work with immigration as a congressman from San Diego and the need for fair trade policies. His remarks were very well received.

Friday afternoon was by far the best training event of the entire conference when Dora (I can't remember her last name at the moment), a member of the YR Alumni Network, did a presentation on Opposition Research. Close behind was the presentation by the RNLA on Ballot Security and how to build legal teams to defend against voter fraud. The Leadership Institute rounded out the day's training on grassroots organizing.

Saturday was the height of excitement at YRNC 2007, as Fred Thompson made a surprise visit to the luncheon headlined by Mary Matalin. Entering the room to cheers of "Run Fred Run" and "Fred, Fred, Fred" he gave a stirring address that spoke more to our attitude as a party right now than substantive policy matters.

After lunch the Convention came to Order. I am proud to say that Georgia led the way in amending a Resolution that would have backed gay unions to limit it to a statement opposed to judicial activism that was legislating gay marriage from the bench. Another resolution supporting the installation of closed circuit cameras was defeated. A courtesy resolution thanking the organizers of 2007 and another resolution granting Nicolee Ambrose the title of Chairman Emeritus passed without objection. The election of officers went largely as expected, with Glenn Murphy's ticket being elected without opposition. All of the new officers gave gracious speeches thanking the YRNF for the opportunity to serve and outlining an ambitious agenda for the 2007-2009 cycle.

With our business finished, we adjourned to a reception hosted by Mitt Romney and our YR Awards Dinner, featuring speeches from the Chairman of Florida's Republican Party, Governor Charlie Crist and Governor Mitt Romney. Following the excellent remarks of Governor Romney, a straw poll was conducted which was won by Romney with 46% of the vote, Fred Thomspon finished 2nd with 28% of the vote and Rudy rounded out the top three with 10%.

Sunday morning brought our final YRNF Board meeting of YRNC 2007. Chairman Murphy provided a great outline for the first 100 days of his administration, promising to take action on recuritment, education and deployment in the near future. The Fall Board Meeting was announced, which will be in Houston, Texas on November 9-11, 2007. Best Practices Manuals were made available on CD, these contain forms and helpful information for new and existing clubs. If you are interested in getting these, let me know as I have several copies.

Regards,

Josh McKoon

2007 YRNF Convention Report- Alexandra Tabarrok

The YR National Convention in Florida was a great time!

Our official delegation included me, Josh McKoon (national committee man), David Helmick (chair of Muscogee co. yrs), and Michael Tabarrok (General council yrs). We all had a great time and it was good to get to know everyone in a relaxed and extended social environment.

The hotel where we stayed at was connected to the convention center where the convention was being hosted. This made the meetings and luncheons very easy to attend. Not only was the hotel beautiful, but the pools, restaurants, and rooms exceeded expectations. The hotel was located in Hollywood FL ; just 30 minutes from South Beach and situated in between the intercoastal waterway and the beach so every room had a beautiful view!

The Florida Delegation did an excellent job of lining up great social events for entertainment, which made this trip more of a vacation and less of a convention. On Wednesday night the sky was lit up with spectacular fireworks on both sides of the hotel over the beach. Afterwards we went over to Rivals, a sports bar, cross the street and spent the rest of the evening meeting YR’s from across the country. All of the YR’s we met could not have been more inviting, especially Sean from Kansas .

Thursday, we had lunch listening to the entertaining past Maryland Lt. Governor and current chairman of GOPAC Michael Steele. After the luncheon the first board meeting was held.

That evening we enjoyed the YRFEST, later we went for drinks at Rivals then were bused down along with other YR’s to South Beach where we partied the night away. We had a great time hanging out with Kristin and Mike from Louisiana and the crowd from New Jersey made the bus trip a blast.

Friday began with an informative speech from Duncan Hunter on Trade with China .

The rest of the afternoon was spent at the pool, and the beach. Michael even joined in a game of beach volleyball. We met several new friends! Later that evening we met up at a great Cuban restaurant where we spotted a Noah Wiley look-a-like, really a delegate from N.J., but close enough. From there we went to the Glenn Murphy party where the beer was free!

Saturday, was busy, we had a state club chair meeting in the morning. The afternoon luncheon crested by a visit with Fred Thompson who was introduced by Mary Matalin. It was great, people were waving signs, chanting and standing on chairs. Afterwards Fred worked the crowd. It was a really great time. After the luncheon the private session of the board meeting was held.

That evening the awards dinner was held with keynote speaker Mitt Romney, who gave a great speech. FL Governor Charlie Christ was also there and spoke as well.

As I close, I have to say, not only on my behalf, but also on everyone else’s, this was a terrific convention. I would recommend to everyone to come to the next board meeting being held in Houston . You WILL have a great time. This was my first national meeting and it far exceeded all expectations!

Josh McKoon and I will soon be hosting a national page with national updates and a calendar of upcoming events. I also am going to begin to call of you club chairman out there to see what we can do in order to get you and your members more involved on the national level.

YR GA National Committee Woman
Alexandra Tabarrok
